Ran after work up sunnyside for a 8 3/4 mile run. Nice weather for the most part. 34 degrees and very little wind. Felt real good going up the hills. Wish I knew my pace up the hills. Got on the scale  and realized that I have gained seven pounds this winter! What the *&%^$ Must have ate like a oinker this past winter. My best times were back a few years when I was a svelte 140. I normally am comfortable at 145. I will watch what I eat and hopefully the weather will allow some good weeks of running. Give me 3 to 4 weeks and I will be there! My wife doesn't like the 145....She thinks I look like a holocaust surviver as it is anyway.

Funny stuff, I'm sure you'll be back to normal when you're able to pick the mileage back up.

I'm about like you, weight-wise...doesn't fluctuate much. Back when I didn't run at all and drank tons of beer, I was 155. Now, after over a year of running and not drinking beer I'm way down....to 150.

Joe.. you svelte 150! How tall are you anyway? I am 5'9"

somewhere between 5'10 and 5'11 - so holocaust surviver physique as well.

Somebody should start a discussion topic on this. I think every pound is worth a lot in a marathon, but my wife (and almost everybody else for that matter) definitely does not like the gaunt look. Somebody asked me last week if I was ill, even though they knew I wasn't. Quite annoying. I am about halfway between my maximum weight of two or three years ago and my high school weight. It is so tempting to keep taking off the pounds in order to get some more speed. I don't think skinny is unhealthy, I think people are used to seeing everybody overweight so in their mind's eye the median is higher than it should be.

That is annoying you were asked that, and I think you're right about the status quo being heftier than healthy these days. I wouldn't mind being skinnier to run faster, but am not willing to eat rabbit food to get there. Fried food and meat are too delicious to avoid.

Flat the 'gaunt look' is a better way of putting it. Forgive me for ignorance. Several years ago I gave my son a buzz haircut against my wife's wishes. When I finished up she said he looked like a holocaust surviver. So with our crazy family, it is a term of endearment. I wish we could find that happy medium with weight. It takes a lot of effort to keep body fat % down. I do know that when I was at my leanest, i was faster.

Joe ya Tex Mex fried food and vanilla coke! Now pass me the carrots!

It's all a matter of degree. I was right at 160 this morning after I finished my run, true weight probably 165. 145 seems like a great weight for a runner. Once my younger son got an unauthorized head-shave from his older brother and we went through the same thing. Took him to an Astros game and as we were standing in line at the ticket window a gentleman kindly walked up and gave us front-row tickets, kind of a "make a wish" thing for cancer kids.
