Heading out later today after work. Had some crappy news yesterday. I have been experiencing some discomfort in my fingers for a few months and thought that it might be time to get things checked out by a medical professional. Having difficulties doing the simple tasks. Just a side note, I did diagnose my ailments on the internet. Anyway, I have osteorthritis. Wait, isn't that for old dudes! Guess not, or maybe I am an old dude. Doc came up with some treatment but none that I cared for. I don't care to take medications..... my brother is even a pharmicist. I did some additional reading on the subject and found that some people get results from staying away from certain foods. Glucosamine and Chondroitin are also some possiblilties for relief. Most medical personel tell you 'no' with the supplements...... I think that they have some stock in the drug companies. Luckily it is just in my fingers and isn't present in any other joints. Didn't think that I would be dealing with this at the age of cough, cough, 48.

Ran on the treadmill after work. Set the incline at 5 and just roughed it out. Felt good today and as far as the week is concerned...... a good one overall. Avg pace 8:30

Ah man....sorry to hear about the osteo... My wife is your age and was diagnosed with full blown osteoporosis last year. They tested her back and her hip and it was really bad. They did put her on some medication and she is taking some suppliments and was reciently retested and things look much better. I think you should look into both. I started taking glucosamine a few months ago when I was having knee problems.

Oh, sorry to hear that! My sister has osteoarthritis in her back. She has been dealing with pain for a few years now. No fun! No fun!

I think we all get things that are crappy as we get older. It is scary to read about some of the drugs they would like you to take. I have auto-immune stuff and it is just no fun and neither are the meds!

Steam8 and IJR.. Thanks you guys! This is just a small bump in life for me. I'll keep after it. I've been active all my life and hopefully this want get into the way. I took some Aleeve yesterday and today.... it's taken the edge off.

I think you are in shock after for a while after you receive bad news like that. Luckily it isn't life threatening and just going to be a pain to deal with!

Sorry to here about the diagnosis. The good news is that you don't have to stop doing what you love.

I have arthritis. I have had it since I was 21. So age really isn't a factor. It started in my fingers as well. The joints are better when they are warm. On some days, just running them under hot water in the morning was enough. I tried a lot of different supplements. Some worked for me and others didn't. Vitamin D is one that works for me.

The medical approach to arthritis is to suppress the immune system. This can relieve the joints, but also cause lots of problem elsewhere. Sometimes, you can improve arthritis symptoms by boosting your immune system. Research supplements that boost the immune system and try a few of those.

Don't stop running. Another cause of arthritis is poor circulation. Running gets the blood pumping and lubes the joints. Stay strong. You'll get through this.

Yuck, sorry to hear about that. I take glucosamine regularly and I'm only 32. It has helped me with my knees for sure. Glad you are planning to stick with the running, and now that you know you have arthritis maybe you can nip it with treatment and it'll have less of an impact? Good luck.

Twinkles .... Thanks so much for the information. I remembered that you had arthritis too. Great information on vitamin D. I'll give that a try. I'm hoping that it will just stay put and not get worse. The weather has started to change and maybe that's why I noticed it more. Do you take any NSAIDs for it? Aleeve has taken the edge off for sure. I started glucosamine three days ago and Hoping that it will help. Vitamin D sounds good through ice cream! We will talk during Thanksgiving.

Slow joe .... Funny what we get to learn about on this earth. Little trials that shape us into who we really are! I believe that God cares more about how we react to adversity than anything else.
