Really want to race again. 5k's to the marathon. Love to qualify to run Boston at some point.

Keep running and family balanced and be as fit as I can so I can run and play with the family.

Rode to work on a great morning. 10 miles in about 31 + minutes.

I've been reading a bit about the comparison of cycling vs running. There is quite a bit of information out there. You have the wind resistance of cycling as you excel and gain speed and so on. There are so many factors that I am not going to bother to write it all. I decided to strap on the heart rate monitor and observe heart rate while cycling home today. I took off towards home, I planned on a 20 miler so I took my normal route home. Interesting today the wind was blowing out of the north. My first several miles happened to be  directly into the teeth of the wind. 10 to 14 miles per hour. It was difficult to keep the pace up towards 17+. My heart rate approached 90% of maximum. When I got to the point of heading straight south my heart rate dropped to 83% of max but my speed increased to 28mph. Interesting enough my max speed going with the wind was a speedy 33mph. At that point I started to feel lots of wind resistance even though I was going with the wind. Anyway, I finished my 20 miler just under 60 minutes. According to my hear rate monitor I burned just as many calories as a normal hour run for me. Granted the run would be at an easy pace. Just glad to know that I am keeping my fitness during this time of healing.

Cool, interesting HR stats. Sounds like wind is everything on the bike; I can't imagine only being able to run half the speed into the wind as I could with the wind. Nice job keeping up the cardio, calfzilla!
