Running Accomplishments:

Completed 9 marathons with mixed results. 3:38 being the best out of the 9. It's been several years since I have participated in a marathon. Priorities and health have played a roll with racing the last few years. Hoping to get out and participate and have some fun.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Really want to race again. 5k's to the marathon. Love to qualify to run Boston at some point.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running and family balanced and be as fit as I can so I can run and play with the family.

Personal:

Happily married for some time......5 great kids that overachieve in whatever they choose to do.

Blog titile explanation: Been diagnosed with a brain tumor late 2013. With my lack of confidence in the medical field and just not feeling good about it......I will be running with my friend, "Tiny Tim" until further notice.

Not the best news. Friday was a difficult day. I took a walk with the dogs and I was limping pretty bad after just a mile. Swelling and constant discomfort.... Saw the doc and was advised to wear the dreaded boot for a couple of weeks. He believes that there is some partial tearing of the tendon and that the only way it will heal is a couple of weeks in the darth vader boot. I wonder if I am going to make it 1 week in this thing. I attended the new running stores grand opening saturday. I left pretty discouraged thinking I won't be able to run for a couple of weeks. Did win three pairs of sweet socks!

Sorry about the injury, I hope you can get recovered soon.

Ah, sorry to hear that! I hate how these things seem to strike just when you're getting into form. Hope you have a speedy recovery; I'm sure the giant boot will help speed things along as well as draw awkward stares.

Thanks Joe & Jeff. The biggest obstacle now is listening to all the non runners tell me that this was bound to happen and how bad running is for you. Got any good replies for them?

From jtshad on Tue, Apr 26, 2011 at 10:07:50 from 204.134.132.225

Tell them that statistically runners have less knee issues and onset of arthritis as we carry a lighter load ALL the time and don't stress our bodies as much by being overweight. Tell them that our bodies are "machines" that are meant to be used and do have breakdowns sometimes, just like vehicles, that require maintenance. Tell them that our maintenance (rehab a tendon, rest a knee) is better than people who don't exercise and do maintenance through medication and hoping that a "pill" will be a substitute for real effort to stay healthy. Or, just ignore them and get back with them later when you run by their house when you are 60 and enjoying the sunshine and fresh air and they are sitting in front of their TV on oxygen and remind them how "bad" running is for you.

Tell them your doctor said you had to go see him if you wanted to stop running, and you don't want to pay the deductible.

Jeff, I would love to have that all memorized, can I paraphrase with your permission?

Sure, know worries about spreading the good word about running's benefits!
