Its official! It totally sucks. Tried out the ankle and managed 1/2 mile. Wow. Time to get out the bike and get some miles in. I'm hoping that I can atleast do that. Discouragement. Have fun running frb's.

Rode the bike to work this morning. Windy and cool. After yesterdays attempt at running I realized that my ankle is not up to running anytime soon. It tolerated the bike ride ok so I will stick with that for a while. 10 miles in 30 minutes.

Rode home in some pretty nasty winds. Don't know what I hate more....running in the wind or biking in the wind????? 8 miles in 30 minutes.

Had the day off and went for a 30 mile bike ride in some pretty windy weather. Not sure when I am going to try running. I would love to give it a try today.I am concerned how quickly it flared up after just a half a mile on Monday. Time is such a crappy thing for injuries.

Wishing all the moms a happy Mothers Day tomorrow!

Well, it has been a week since I tried running. I ran a big 1/2 mile last monday and this week I managed 1.50. Don't know what to think! I even purchased some new shoes. I thought maybe I needed some additional support so I found a deal on some new Kayano 16. I have run in them before. Well, earlier models. They are heavy but I will use them. I just want to run for an hour but it looks like that won't be happening for a while. Hopefully I stopped before I caused additional problems. I was going to try to run to work this morning and it's a good thing that didn't happen.....It has been raining the last two days so I haven't been able to ride the bike so hopefully I can get some miles in this week.

Rode the bike on a cool morning. Good news ..... no rain. Ten miles in about 31 minutes. Ankle is sore this morning. I guess I got on it too quickly. I will get very familiar with the bike in the next few weeks. Pretty bumbed out though. Felt like I was a about ready for the Teton Dam Marathon on the 11 June. Have to see how the rest of the spring and summer goes. I would like to try to run the TOU in September. Just see how things go.

Rode home on a picture perfect afternoon. Temps about 60 degrees and very little wind. 14 miles in 45 minutes and some change.

A great morning! 40 degrees and no wind and lots of blue sky. Rode the bike to work. 10 miles in 30 minutes and some change. Didn't want to stop. To nice of a day to be at work. Looking forward to a good ride home later this afternoon.

What an afternoon! 70 degrees and just a slight breeze. Rode home and took the long way. A good tempo ride. 20 miles in 58 minutes. Could have been faster but there was so many vehicles out I had to obey traffic signs to a point.

Rode the bike with the family We are in Moscow with my daughter and her husband. He is receiving his Masters Degree tomorrow. Big day for both of them. We rode 20 miles. Not sure how long it took but we finished. It is pretty here in northern Idaho. Hoping to run monday morning and see how the ankle is doing.

Nice to be back at home. Great time with the family. Rode to work this morning. 10 miles on a pretty cool morning. Will ride back and give the ankle a try.

Rode home on a cool afternoon. 14 miles avg 19.8 mph so I am going to call it an even 20. Ran a mile after the ride and only made it 1 lousy mile. Worse than last week were I managed 1 1/2 miles. I am not sure what to think.

Nice ride to work. Rode the short route due to getting up late. 6 miles total. Try to get a longer ride in after work.

Nice ride home. 15 miles avg pace at 20.4 Which was pretty good considering that I was riding into a 10mph breeze. Cycling legs are coming back. Hope it helps the running muscles.

Rode to work on a great morning. 10 miles in about 31 + minutes.

I've been reading a bit about the comparison of cycling vs running. There is quite a bit of information out there. You have the wind resistance of cycling as you excel and gain speed and so on. There are so many factors that I am not going to bother to write it all. I decided to strap on the heart rate monitor and observe heart rate while cycling home today. I took off towards home, I planned on a 20 miler so I took my normal route home. Interesting today the wind was blowing out of the north. My first several miles happened to be  directly into the teeth of the wind. 10 to 14 miles per hour. It was difficult to keep the pace up towards 17+. My heart rate approached 90% of maximum. When I got to the point of heading straight south my heart rate dropped to 83% of max but my speed increased to 28mph. Interesting enough my max speed going with the wind was a speedy 33mph. At that point I started to feel lots of wind resistance even though I was going with the wind. Anyway, I finished my 20 miler just under 60 minutes. According to my hear rate monitor I burned just as many calories as a normal hour run for me. Granted the run would be at an easy pace. Just glad to know that I am keeping my fitness during this time of healing.

Rode early this morning due to work... 54 miles on a crisp but nice morning. Temps in the 50's and quite pleasant. Kept my speed up for most of the ride. avg pace 19.2 Not bad considering the hills that I climbed...

Rode 22 miles after work on a nice day. Cloudy and windless! Avg pace 19.1mph. Didn't bother to try to run today. I didn't need the disapointment.

Nice ride after work on a very nice afternoon. 31 miles at a pace at 19.6 mph. Legs are feeling stronger with the cycling. Sure miss the running but glad I have this to fall back on.

Another discouraging run. Managed just a mile and a half. Don't really know what to try next. It has been a solid six weeks of rest. No end in sight at the moment. I have great strength in my ankle but it just basically gives out after a mile of light running.
